FAQ

Q: What is a Facial?

A: A facial is a family of Skin Treatment for the face that includes steam, exfoliation, extractions, creams, lotions, facial masks, peels, and massage. Used for general skin health.

Q: What does a Facial do for the skin?

A: A facial is designed to cleanse, exfoliate and nourish to skin to promote a clear, well hydrated skin.

Q: Are there different Facials for different skin types?

A: Yes. Before any facial is performed we will have you fill out paper work. The questionnaire will let us know such things as; medications you are taking, the products you use on your skin, recent procedures (e.g. injections, peels, laser) you have had on your face and what your biggest concern is with your skin. The information you provide will be discussed with your esthetician.

Before the facial begins we will perform a skin assessment to determine your skin type. After your skin type (dry, oily, sensitive, mature, dehydrated) has been determined the products used in your facial will be appropriate for your skin type.

Q: Why do I need facials?

A: A regular facial routine is more about skin health and maintenance than it
is about luxury or pampering, although many do find it to be a relaxing,
enjoyable experience. Facial services help increase circulation and
stimulate the skin. They can also help slow down premature aging and
drastically improve conditions such as acne, redness and Rosacea. Facials
are a great preventative treatment to help you beat wrinkles before they
occur, and can also help you achieve lighter, brighter, younger-looking
skin. In addition to healthier skin, many men enjoy regular facials to help
minimize irritation, redness, ingrown hairs, and razor burn associated with
shaving.

Q: Why do I need a professional skin therapist?

A: For the same reason doctor and dentist check-ups are necessary: for
better health! Skin is a living part of your body (your largest organ, in
fact), that defends against environmental assaults and extreme
temperatures. It helps eliminate toxins from the body, and it is continually
renewing and protecting.
To look at feel its best, your skin needs personal attention from a
professional. We features licensed estheticians, who are
intensely educated skin-health experts. They have the answers to your
most pressing skin-care concerns. They know how to deliver real, visible
results. They are trained to deliver the specific Dermalogica professional
skin treatments that will target your specific needs, and prescribe the
products that will help maintain your optimum skin health at home in
between facials.

Q: How soon will I start seeing results from my facial?

A: Some people see results immediately, and your skin should feel different
right away. The skin feels, clean, smooth, hydrated, and reflects a new
level of health that’s visibly noticeable.
If the skin has more advanced long-term needs, such as treatment of skin
aging, acne or hyper-pigmentation caused by hormonal fluctuations or sun
damage, results may not be immediately visible; however, skin health will
continue to improve as you follow the advice of your professional skin
therapist, and continue your home-care regimen.

Q: What are the long-term benefits of getting regular facials?

A: Plain and simple: healthy skin! And healthy skin is better-looking skin. The
Dermalogica products we uses are designed to help keep
skin at an optimal level of fitness – not just cover up with cosmetic results.
In addition, when skin is at an optimal level of fitness, your professional
skin therapist can more effectively address issues that may arise from
time to time, as your skin’s needs are constantly changing.

Q: How can seasonal changes affect my skin?

A: Similar to the seasons, skin goes through its own fluctuations. Combine
nature’s weather cycle with air conditioning and forced-air heating, and you
have skin that’s constantly under assault. Cold winds and low temperatures
can dry out skin, depriving it of balanced levels of oils, contributing to
dryness, sensitivity and premature aging. Prolonged exposure to the sun
causes water to evaporate from skin, which is why skin that has recently
been burned or tanned requires more moisturization than unexposed
areas. Forced-air heating also dries out skin: warm, dry air acts like a
sponge, soaking up moisture from everything it touches.
To help skin stay healthy with the seasons, speak with your esthetician about modifying your skin care regimen accordingly.
Chances are that with a few product updates, you can keep skin healthy
year-round.

Q: If I get a facial, do I have to use Dermalogica products at home?

A: No, but talk to your esthetician about what products you are using. Many
products from drug stores or beauty counters contain ingredients that
cause or contribute to skin issues such as dryness, oiliness and redness.

Q: What can I expect at my facial appointment?

A: Plan to arrive to your first appointment about 5-10 minutes early. You will
need to fill out a form listing contact information, allergies and any
medications that you are currently taking. Then your esthetician will
evaluate your skin using a magnify lamp, ask you about your goals for
your skin, and make a recommendation for skincare products and
treatments to help you reach those goals. A facial generally consists of a
cleansing, exfoliation, steam (in the form of warm towels or a machine),
massage and a treatment mask.

Q: What should I do to prepare for my facial?

A: Since our facials are designed to work on your skin from
the neck up, you may want to plan on removing your makeup or pulling
long hair back. Cosmetics can be reapplied after the service; feel free to
bring them with you, or ask about our make-up application services. Men
should be clean shaved unless bearded. Other than these few easy steps,
simply be ready to relax and enjoy yourself in our private, comfortable
facial room.

Q: Will the facial hurt, or be uncomfortable?

A: You should never feel irritation, burning or discomfort during your facial.
All Dermalogica products are created to be non-irritating, and your
esthetician is trained to use the best products for your skin type. If for
some reason you should feel discomfort, please tell your esthetician
immediately.

Q: How often should I get a facial?

A: Generally, facials are recommended once a month. However, you can
discuss your specific needs, desired outcomes and schedule with your
esthetician.

Q: Do all spas offer the same Facials and Treatments?

A: No. The facials from one spa to another will differ depending on the line of products they are using in the facial treatment. Every product line will have their own unique features, ways of performing the facial depending on the protocol of the product line. But, with that said every facial, regardless of the product line that is being used will include; a questionnaire, a skin evaluation, cleansing, steam (depending on the skin the skin type), exfoliation, extractions (if necessary), massage (if appropriate), mask, and skin care advice.

Q:  Are there Facials for men?

A: Men definitely do have facials but I would not say there are different facials for a man. The men would need a skin assessment just like the ladies and their facial would be designed based on their skin type, just as like the ladies.

Microneedling:
Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure. It involves pricking the skin with tiny sterilized needles. The small wounds cause your body to make more collagen and elastin, which heal your skin and help you look younger. You might also hear it called collagen induction therapy.

Microneedling may help with issues like:

Microneedling is less expensive than laser treatments, which can cost about four times as much. Microneedling may work better for people with darker skin tones because it doesn’t involve heat the way laser treatments do, which can affect your skin’s pigmentation, or color.

What Happens When You Get Microneedling:
The procedure usually takes 10-20 minutes, depending on how big the area is. Most people need 4-6 treatments to see a difference. First, you’ll get a numbing cream smoothed onto your face so you can’t feel the needle pricks. Then the person doing the microneedling will move a pen-shaped or rolling tool with tiny needles around your face. The needles make small cuts in your skin, which causes a bit of bleeding. We will then use a hyaluronic serum after to help sooth your skin.

Benefits of Monthly Facials

Deep Cleansing:

A better, deeper cleanse than the one you do at home a cleansing facial will help your skin get rid of oil buildup, toxins and dirt from your everyday environment, thoroughly removing all the bacteria that could cause skin issues.

Anti-Aging:

Facial treatments can help slow down the aging process and prevent the appearance of wrinkles. Massaging your face with an anti-aging cream will immediately increase the blood circulation and oxygen flow, which promotes collagen production and enhances the elasticity of your skin. This leads to a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles and prevents their appearance. Remember: It’s never too early to take good care of your skin!

Relaxing:

Messages are so good for relaxing, relieving stress, and balancing your mind. Just like your body, your face muscles need a massage and most facial treatments include one. The boost in circulation you’ll get will stimulate the lymphatic vessels and detoxify your skin, making it look healthy and youthful.

Skin Rejuvenation:

The exfoliation, extraction, massage, steam, and mask application during a facial treatment lead to skin rejuvenation, or in other words – a fresh, renewed skin. This improves the appearance of the skin, giving it a healthy, radiant glow and balanced complexion. You might not see the results instantly, but in the long run, your skin is going to get restored! So keep in mind that being regular and consistent with your facials is a key.

Improved Skin Care Routine:

Your esthetician will analyze your skin condition and help you choose the best facial treatment for your skin type.

Treating A Variety Of Skin Issues:

After being diagnosed with a skin condition, getting a regular facial treatment will help treat it and heal your skin. Issues like blackheads, whiteheads, sunspots and sun damage, acne, inflammation and redness, rosacea, wrinkles, acne scarring, loss of firmness and elasticity can be minimized with the right facial treatment.
